Replacing Featured Image With YouTube Video

I was recently asked to add the feature of replacing featured images with YouTube videos.

This was surprisingly easy with the help of the “Really Simple Featured Video” plugin.

With this plugin active you simply go to it’s settings.

Then enable featured videos for either posts or pages (or both).

And if you want to you can also fine tune how you want these videos to perform.

And then you can either upload a video on your website or embed a YouTube video in the settings of your post/page.

Thus creating your featured video!

When using a YouTube video remember to embed like this: https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID

(figured that out thanks to this forum https://forum.freecodecamp.org/t/youtube-refused-to-connect/245262).

And note that the plugin will not place videos within embedded posts (instead acting like they simply have no featured image).

And know that the plugin will place videos within post/page archives, though this may require additional styling.
