Apple Podcast Connect Submit Art Fix

Trying to submit an Apple podcast?

Got your RSS feed set up with something like the Seriously Simple Podcasting plugin?

Getting the error: “Art – Artwork must be between 1400 x 1400 and 3000 x 3000 pixels, JPG or PNG, in RGB color space, and hosted on a server that allows HTTP head requests”?

Tried checking your podcast with Podbase and CastFeedValidator but nothings wrong?

Well here’s some info you may not have that I dug up:

That bit where it says “Artwork must be between 1400 x 1400 and 3000 x 3000 pixels”?

It’s nonsense.

The cover image MUST be 3000 x 3000 pixels.

No bigger and no smaller.

And to ensure iTunes compatibility, the image must be smaller than 512 KB.

But if your website is hosted on something like Flywheel you may have the problem of a backend unable to deal with images over 2048 x 2048 pixels.

But don’t worry!

There’s a workaround.

On Apple Podcast Connect simply remove the RSS field (you’ll find the option at the bottom of the page).

Once you do this you’ll find that the option to manually submit a piece of art has been added in the show details.

Now upload a 3000 x 3000 pixel version of your cover image.

Once it’s been processed save and submit the show again.

This should go through without any problem.

Then if your podcast is still ongoing simply add your RSS feed back to the show details.

And because Apple Podcast Connect doesn’t have as many checks for a published show as one being submitted…

It’ll go through without a hitch.
